MESA Meeting Thursday, January 16, 2025:  

*All in attendance are voting members

Attendance:  Kim Heinecken, Katie Heinecken, Wendy Grunthal, Laura Harthan, Jen Kravitz, Hannah Harding, Julie Altemose, Lianne Lussier, Adrienne MacIntyre, Sarah Schumacher, Meghan Dishaw

6:30-7:00 pm Principal’s Round Table re: School Budget

7:00-8:00 pm MESA Business Meeting

Agenda:

  1. Sign-In 
  2. Round Table w/ Principal Kravitz
    1. Update & general questions about the budget
    2. School board adopted the school budget
    3. Discussed the reduction of a teacher and an interventionist next year
    4. An opportunity that we get is that we won’t need to spend $20000 from McGilton fund to send kids to KEEC
    5. MH will have it’s own curriculum coordinator
    6. 2 instructional specialists at MH (new positions, actively in classrooms supporting tier 1 instruction)
      1. The difference between that and an interventionist is interventionists accelerate student growth by working in small groups with students who might be behind and on plans, and these instructional specialists might be co-teaching rather than pull out services in the same way
    7. Discussion around impacts of behavior on academics and how MESA/parents can continue to advocate to board/superintendent for MH specific needs
    8. Question around difference between IB coordinator and curriculum coordination; answer was around smaller schools that have classes moving from multi-grade to single grade classes, 1 coordinator just for MH and the other for the other 7 schools, there are not really any differences

      3. Changing the way we’re counting minutes to just counting the number of days they met the goal

      1. Sarah is working on new designs for Spiritwear

      1. Casey is managing Sign Up Genius for sign ups
      2. Greg’s is donating mac & cheese

  4. Reminder re: Monthly Meeting Schedule Changes
    1. March 20th & May 
    2. Some conflicting dates with other school events to be aware of
    3. Possibly change the March/May dates?
  5. Playground Sheds Update
    1. Assemble on 1/20 in the gym at 1:00pm
    2. Place them at C wing and B wing connector
  6. Finance Update
    1. Donations
      1. $20,000 farm to school grant awarded
      2. $1000 donation (SNAVE foundation in MA)
      3. $300 anon Fidelity Charitable donation
      4. Trybus donation $100
      5. Julie got $ for free book give-aways
  7. Open Comments
    1. Discussed taking grant money and adding a line in the budget for student council
    2. Add to next executive board meeting agenda
    3. KEEC May 5th
    4. $7611 from Scholastic, paperwork needed was sent to Casey
      1. Need to vote on whether we cash out with $3020.87 in Scholastic dollars OR $1510.43 in cash
      2. Sarah made a motion to take the funds in Scholastic dollars, Hannah seconded, no discussion, all voted in favor unanimously
      3. Julie will use the $200 in Scholastic dollars for book giveaway, she will use Hannah’s login info, and has to do it after we pay
      4. Did Casey pay for the literacy dinner? Did Steve invoice her?
